Survivors’ Guide to Being Fired

Featured image - Tools for Survival after Dismissal - Image by Pexels from Pixabay In October 2024, 3 of my friends in their 50s all got turfed out of their jobs on allegations of 'gross misconduct', which it turns out is what must be found to fire someone on the spot. Firstly, they cannot claimContinue reading "Survivors’ Guide to Being Fired"

What if MPs were all sent to Job Centres for a day

I've recently heard about sanctions, when someone has been kicked off benefits after 3 months, despite their efforts to find work and their circumstances. There have been reports in the broadsheet and tabloid press about people who have starved to death in their homes due to having nothing to live on. Here's a fictional sceneContinue reading "What if MPs were all sent to Job Centres for a day"

Harnessing contributions from a diverse workforce

Some workplaces seem to be trying to beat the tide before the floodgates open and dismiss employees who the employer is not equipped to harness to their full potential before laws protect these people against unfair dismissal and discrimination

Increased productivity from a cognitive inclusive workplace

Even if a workforce isn't 20% neurodiverse, suppliers, customers and job applicants might be. When I applied to the London College of Communication to do a postgraduate in journalism in 1997 I felt the application process was fair and left feeling I would trust the outcome. I was offered a place, which I took, and then an unconditional place to do an MA in broadcast journalism in 2011. I came top in media law.

A new local creative cafe venture – jumping in

When discussing this idea with a friend recently, expecting everyone to talk me out of it, I realised that every time I had considered a new venture or starting down any path if anything ahead was not visible, I got serious cold feet. The other realisation I had was that everything I have done, whichContinue reading "A new local creative cafe venture – jumping in"

Taking the Plunge – Buying a café venue to run as a profitable business

After much thought, a lifetime of dreaming and once I could no longer house all my ideas in my head, I looked for a commercial business and have viewed a cafe venue running in Falmouth and put in an offer today Friday 1st November 2024

Image by PublicDomainPictures from Pixabay During lockdown, many people went from commuting daily to work, walking to the bus stop, going out during breaks, commuting home or going out. While at work we cannot snack. An entire industry of delivering foodContinue reading "Government diet advice leads to yo-yoing weight"

Chemtrails – More Corporate Deflection onto Climate Science?

My Diary 2021 – week 4

Friday 22nd January 2021 "Woke at 8am and feel ready to get up. Then have a lie in as 9am alarm rudely wakes from dream. Reset for 10am, same, get up at 10.44am. Get into a twitter storm as reply to @RAFLuton about over-use of word “scrambled” not noticing mention of 612 shots fired. Ian May messages to say RAF Luton spoof account. Jokes ensure about eggs, scrambling etc. Most people fun, few judgmental people who state obvious or miss joke if I’d said “trying out comedy” not entertaining as coming from “journalist”. Post and first made retort “it’s a journalist”. Deal with these idiots point out how few people are listening to these idiots and are missing the fun."

Friday 15th January 2021 "Had big discussion with Eric about stuff, relationships, acceptance etc and went to see his new car 1998 Citroen estate, which he wanted to sell me for £1700. Nice big comfy car but has handbreak on floor. Dangerous for me."
